Program FAQ's
What season is lacrosse played? BYL is committed to playing lacrosse during the spring season.
How are the teams divided? We are a grade based program and a member of the Old Colony League (boys) and South Shore Lacrosse (girls).
How much does the program cost? Both boys and girls programs cost $200. Fee includes $25 annual membership to US Lacrosse
When is registration? Online registration will open on October 15th. It will close on January 1st. Any late registrants will be charged a $25 late fee.
How does our family register? Go to the website and locate the Register Online tab to the left. (The tab will not be available before October 15th.) Online registration requires that you pay by credit card. BYL prefers Visa and Mastercard. You will then receive an email confirming your registration from the website.
What is the deadline for registration? January 1st 2020.
Can I register a child in a grade above or below his/her current grade? No. BYL remains a grade level program. Your child is eligible only for his or her current grade level of play.
Can my son/daughter play on the same team as their friends? We cannot accommodate requests given the size of our program.
When does BYL start for 2020? The season begins the first weekend of April. We're currently reserving indoor time for optional winter workouts. (See Winter Schedule tab)
Typically where do we practice? Braintree High School and Thayer Academy turf fields. The U9 boys program will play on Friday nights on the Thayer Academy turf field.
Where are away games for travel? We make a conscious effort to schedule our away games as close to Braintree as possible. Directions to all fields are in the Directions tab to the left.
How do parents keep abreast of what's going on? Check the website: www.braintreelacrosse.net. Ask your child's coach.
What does my registration fee go towards? We determine the registration fee by adding up all our costs and looking at the number of participants. The fee covers referees and officials, uniforms, personal and team equipment (goalie equipment, goals, nets, cones, balls etc.), medical kits, indoor time, insurance for all players and coaches, membership to U.S. Lacrosse for all players and coaches, and tournament / clinic fees.
What is U.S. Lacrosse? The national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse. All players will become members of U.S. Lacrosse upon registering for the BYL programs. Their website is http://www.uslacrosse.org.
What are the rules of Boys and Girls lacrosse? For specific rules and other great information, go to the Boys and Girls Rules tabs on the left.
What is the uniform? BYL provides jerseys and shorts for boys and girls players. Each player will also receive a Braintree Lacrosse sweatshirt.
